ISP has been providing services to Tompkins County’s immigrants since 2007. Overall, we strive to be a hub in the community where immigrants, who are experiencing either language or cultural barriers, can go to get their very unique needs met. In 2010, we began to offer legal immigration services – something that was greatly needed in Tompkins County. ISP director, Sue Chaffee, is accredited by the Department of Justice so Catholic Charities can offer low cost or pro bono legal immigration and citizenship services.
Soren Klaverkamp joined Catholic Charities as a Case Manager in the Immigrant Services Program in December 2016. As a case manager, Soren assists ISP clients with a variety of tasks such as job hunting, house hunting, and form completion. In the event that he cannot provide a service he provides a referral to an organization that does. Soren is also the case manager for refugees who Catholic Charities Tompkins/Tioga resettles as an affiliate of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. In this role Soren ensures that all core services are provided and documented according to agency criteria. Before moving to Ithaca Soren lived in Cairo, Fes, and Washington DC.
